Simple chocolate cake

This simple classic may be old, but it’s still as tasty as it was back in your childhood. Classics never age, right?

Ingredients:

  • 1/3 cup vegetable oil;
  • 60 g dark chocolate;
  • 3/4 cup water;
  • 1 cup sugar;
  • 1 egg, slightly beaten;
  • 1 1/4 cups flour;
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt;
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda;
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla;
  • 1 package chocolate chips;
  • 1/3 cup chopped pecans.

Preparation:

Preheat the oven to 175 °C. Heat the oil and the chocolate until chocolate is melted; this will take about 4 minutes. Add the water, sugar, egg, flour, salt, baking soda and vanilla. Using a fork, beat the mixture until it is smooth and creamy; this will take about 1 minute. Add the chocolate chips and chopped pecans, then spoon the mixture into the modules. Bake until a wooden pick inserted in the centre comes out clean, then remove from the oven. You can put two and two cakes together and make 3D figures – or simply leave them as they are and serve.

Delicious brownies

Brownies are also among the most popular deserts, and they are really easy to make. You can either prepare them in small forms (just like you use for muffins) or use a big one to make a brownie cake:

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups white sugar;
  • 1 cup butter;
  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder;
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract;
  • 4 eggs;
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour;
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder;
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt;
  • 1/2 cup walnut halves.

Preparation:

Heat up the oven to 175 °C. Melt the butter or margarine and mix in all ingredients in the order given above. Bake until a wooden pick inserted in the centre comes out clean, then remove from the oven. Pro tip: Serve warm with a spoon of vanilla ice cream.

Amazing homemade chocolate

You’ve probably already heard that chocolate is in fact good for your health – but it really all depends on how it’s made. If you buy the cheapest kind of chocolate at the local market, it’s probably not all that healthy, but if you make it at home, you know what you’re eating.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup coconut oil;
  • 1/2 cup honey or maple syrup;
  • 1 cup cocoa powder;
  • dash of salt;
  • 1 tablespoon of vanilla.

Preparation:

First, melt the coconut oil; when it comes to a room temperature, add all the other ingredients and spoon the mixture into a blender. Blend until the mixture is smooth, then spoon it into the models. Place the models into the freezer and let it set for about 20 minutes. Remove the models from the freezer and turn them around to get the chocolate out.
